ii - equal is itself

ii

equal

is

itself

nothing more

than

what it is

which is where there is confusion

  because clearly

      equivalence evades

so it can be something else

                   even with itself

        that’s what we call equivocation

because words are a means to match

                              without being what they mean

                   save when they are meant

                                                                          then we think like thoughts

                          and feel like feelings

                                           like we

                                           just like each other

         not the same but

enough

evenly balanced

enough that we be treated like

                                                equals

                    even when first among

who would want to weigh when wanting?

                                          but weighed we are

                           when is the weighty matter

we hope we find ourselves equal

                                                  for

        when we speak about equality

it has nothing to do with being

                                                            the same
